REMA 1000 is a multinational supermarket. Their headquarters are located in Norway, in Oslo. The number 1000 refers to the 1000 different articles sold in the network of supermarkets. It has a franchise structure and now it has around 450 supermarkets in Scandinavia

It all started when Odd Reitan, the founder of the company, opened the first REMA (only ‘REMA’, no ‘1000′, at the time) supermarket in Trondheim, Norway 15 February 1979. The owners had recently visited Germany where they had been impressed by the Albrecht brothers (Theo and Karl) supermarket chain ALDI’s success. They wanted to adapt the ALDI concept to Norwegian conditions.

Originally REMA attempted success with a selection of only 500-600 different products, but soon realised that this selection was too narrow. The success of the third REMA supermarket (opened in Mo i Rana, 8 May 1980) with a selection of 1,000 different products, paved way for the REMA 1000 brand. Since then, REMA 1000 have expanded their selection to more than 2,500 different products, but the name hasn’t been updated along the way.

In 2007, the chain celebrated its 28-year anniversary.

REMA 1000 is the main sponsor of Rosenborg BK. The equipment, the stadium, flyers are all branded with the REMA 1000 logo.

mackinack bridge closedThe Mackinac Bridge (pronounced /ˈmĂŚkɨnɔː/, with a silent “c” at the end of the word), is a suspension bridge spanning the Straits of Mackinac to connect the non-contiguous Upper and Lower peninsulas of the U.S. state of Michigan. Envisioned since the 1880s, the bridge was completed only after many decades of struggles to begin construction. Designed by engineer David B. Steinman, the bridge (familiarly known as “Big Mac” and “Mighty Mac”) connects the city of St. Ignace on the north end with the village of Mackinaw City on the south.

Due to bad weather MacKinac Bridge was closed on 11 February 2008. Bitter cold weather moving across Michigan was accompanied by high winds and snow, creating hazardous driving conditions Sunday and forcing road closures, and was blamed in at least one death
