On February 6, 2007, President Bush directed the creation of U.S. Africa Command. The decision was the culmination of a 10-year thought process within the Department of Defense (DOD) acknowledging the emerging strategic importance of Africa, and recognizing that peace and stability on the continent impacts not only Africans, but the interests of the U.S. and international community as well. Yet, the departmentâs regional command structure did not account for Africa in a comprehensive way, with three different U.S. military headquarters maintaining relationships with African countries. The creation of U.S. Africa Command will enable DOD to better focus its resources to support and enhance existing U.S. initiatives that help African nations, the African Union, and the regional economic communities succeed. It also provides African nations and regional organizations an integrated DOD coordination point to help address security and related needs.
The focus of USAFRICOM’s missions will be diplomatic, economic and humanitarian aid, aimed at prevention of conflict, rather than at military intervention, according to Theresa Whelan, Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs. Steven Morrison of the Center for Strategic and International Studies agrees that the new command holds potential well beyond military oversight. Rather, its mission could be defined by an interagency mix, focusing the efforts of intelligence, diplomatic, health and aid experts.
The territory of the command would consist of all of the African continent except for Egypt. Egypt would remain under the direct responsibility of USCENTCOM as it so closely relates to the Middle East. USAFRICOM will also consist of the following island groups;
- Cape Verde
- SĂŁo TomĂŠ and PrĂncipe
- Equatorial Guinea islands
- Comoros
- Madagascar
- Mauritius
- Seychelles
Most of Africa will be transferred from USEUCOM with the Horn of Africa and Sudan transferred from USCENTCOM and the islands of Madagascar and Mauritius transferred from USPACOM.

Middle America is none to pleased with veteran thespiatrix Jane Fonda who yesterday entertained viewers of NBC’s Today show with “a four-letter word for female genitalia”.
Host Meredith Vieira had asked Fonda about her appearence in stage play The Vagina Monologues, which contains a section entitled “Cunt”. In her answer, the actress referred to the segment by name, and the rest is history.
Vieira offered a swift on-screen apology, saying: “You know, before we go to break, in our last half-hour we were talking about The Vagina Monologues and Jane Fonda inadvertently said a word from the play that you don’t say on television. It was a slip, and obviously she apologises, and so do we. We would do nothing to offend the audience, so please accept that apology.”
Fonda explained how she first heard of the work. She said: âI was asked to do a monologue called C***, and I said, âI donât think so. Iâve got enough problems. Then I came to New York to see Eve and it changed my lifeâ. â
“Today” moved quickly to silence the word and cover up Fonda’s face with a still photo when the show was aired in the Midwest, Mountain and West Coast feeds.
Today is broadcast live on the US East Coast and the word was not muted or bleeped. Moments later Meredith Vieira, the host, apologised to audiences. US broadcast standards and practices bar the use of the c-word. NBC called it âa slipâ.

The spy satellite USA-193, also known as NROL-21, was launched aboard a Delta II rocket on Dec. 14, 2006 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Shortly after the satellite reached orbit, ground controllers lost contact with it. Though the satellite’s objective is secret, many believe it is probably a high-resolution radar satellite intended to produce images for the National Reconnaissance Office.
On Feb. 14, senior U.S. government officials at a Pentagon press briefing described a Defense Department plan to try and shoot down the defunct satellite, after becoming convinced that the spacecraft’s toxic hydrazine fuel posed an unacceptable risk to people on the ground. The attempted strike could come Wednesday evening.
The US 193 Satellite is planned for a crash landind these days. The US 193 is a size of a minibus, and the military experts says that the people should not be afraid, since this is a routine task.
The US 193 was launched in December 2006, but after a couple of days lost power and became uncontrollable. The satellite transported a secret imagery chipset.

On 21 February 2008 will be held the greatest manifestations from history of Serbia. The participants are not pleased at all with the auto-proclamated independence of Kosovo. The manifestation will be calm, without fights or something like that. In the middle of the day, and in the middle of Belgrade, thousands of people are welcomed to manifest their aggresion against the independence of Kosovo.
Boris Tadici said that this will be an example of how to manifest against something, and this will show to entire world that Serbia is an european state.
This manifestation came after a series of altercations betwenn Kosovo an Serbia. Numerous borders were destroyed by the serbian people.

Nip/Tuck is an Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning American television medical drama series created by Ryan Murphy for FX Networks. The show follows the lives of two plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). The show was set in Miami, Florida in Seasons 1 through to 4 but a plot related development led to the show moving location to Los Angeles, California from Season 5 onwards. Although previously set in Miami, the show was never filmed there; moving the setting to LA has brought it in line with its place of production.
Nip/Tuck has finished production for 14 of the 22 new episodes, although it’s unclear whether the 22 will be two seasons or considered one long, expanded season. Regardless, the 22 will not run consecutively; Nip/Tuck’s fifth season officially debuted on October 30, 2007, and had it Finale on February 19, 2008. The remaining 8 episodes (15-22) are rumored to air in the fall of 2008.
In season six viewers will probably also see a return of the recently absent Annie McNamara (Kelsey Batelaan). And what about little Connor McNamara, the McNamara’s youngest? It’s hard to say.

On 21th February we will be witnesses of a total moon eclipse. The eclipse will be visible over the Americas, Europe, Africa, and western Asia. The penumbral eclipse, the part when is less interesting, will begin at 00:34:59 UT and end at 06:17:16 UT. It will be visible from western Asia, Europe and Africa when it begins around Moon set, the Americas, and the Pacific Ocean it ends at around Moon rise. The total eclipse will last at least a half an hour and it will be ended at 03:26:05 UT. Who lives in western Asia, Europe, most of Middle East and America will have a splendid view of the total moon eclipse. Hawaii will miss the total eclipse, but he will catch the Moon rise about half eclipsed.
This eclipse will be the last from this decade, because the next total moon eclipse will be in 2011, so it is a good idea to not miss this one. I hope that the weather will be fine.

A prehistoric frog so big it may have dined on baby dinosaurs lived in Madagascar 65 million to 70 million years ago. The discovery was made on an African island, the devii frog weighed in at 10 pounds, was 16 inches long and sported a protective shield, a very wide mouth and very powerful jaws.
Its name, Beelzebufo ampinga, came from Beelzebub, the Greek for devil, and bufo - Latin for toad. Ampinga means “shield,” named for an armour-like part of its anatomy. The presence of Beelzebufo in Madagascar and its modern relatives in South America is the latest sign a long-lost land bridge once may have linked Madagascar to Antarctica - much warmer then - and South America, the scientists said.
The findings were published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
