Terrence Kiel is Dead

terrence kiel is deadFormer San Diego Chargers safety Terrence Kiel, whose off-field problems prevented his enormous talent from coming to fruition, has died in a car crash at age 27.

Kiel was reportedly driving alone after leaving a party at about 10:15 Friday night when his car hit a wall, ejecting him from the vehicle. He died about an hour later. A police spokesman said friends had tried to keep Kiel from driving home from the party, and witnesses told police he appeared to be driving in the wrong direction when he crashed. According to the Union-Tribune, Kiel was ejected from his car, and was barely breathing when emergency personnel reached him. The Lufkin, Texas, native was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m.

A second-round pick from Texas A&M in the 2003 NFL draft, Kiel has been out of the league since the Chargers released him after a guilty plea to a felony drug charge in February 2007, according to the Union-Tribune. Kiel compiled 278 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles in four seasons with the Chargers, from 2003-2006. The accident occurred in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. A witness told police that Kiel was driving a 2004 Chevy sedan the wrong way before losing control and rolling it. Kiel was ejected from the vehicle.

Kiel was a second-round pick in the 2003 draft. He appeared in every game in 2003 and 2004, 12 in 2005, and 15 in 2006.

The Chargers released him in 2007 after he pleaded guilty to sending codeine-laced cough syrup to Houston, presumably for use as the main ingredient in the beverage known as “lean” or “purple drank.” No other team signed him.

Chris Snyder Injury

The Chris Snyder injury video is not something most men will want to watch, but here it is. Check out Chris Snyder injure his testicle in this amazing action video. Chris Snyder is one heckuva man. He actually managed to finish the inning, despite being hit where it really hurts. Way to go, Chris.

If you read enough sports news yesterday you know that Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder suffered one of the worst injuries a man can have: testicle fracture. Ugh, again, I’d rather tear my ACL.

Well guess what, now you can see the injury in all it’s ball-busting glory! Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder has had his left testicle injured and while it may sound funny, I assure you - it’s not.

Chris Snyder (commonly misspelled as Chris Schneider) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list thanks to a testicular fracture. Ouch! Snyder suffered the injury during Monday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Snyder was struck in the testicles by a foul ball in the fourth inning. Originally thought that Snyder would need surgery for his fractured left testicle, the Diamondbacks said that he will not undergo any procedure.

Roman Sebrle - World’s Greatest Athlete

roman sebrleRoman Šebrle (born 26 November 1974 in Lanškroun) is an athlete from the Czech Republic. Originally a high-jumper, he competes in decathlon and heptathlon for team Dukla Praha. He is a world record holder in decathlon - in 2001 in Götzis he became the first decathlete ever to achieve over 9000 points and set the record at 9026 points, succeeding his compatriot Tomas Dvorak, who scored 8994 points two years earlier. A panel of experts convened by the Wall Street Journal in 2008 also ranked Šebrle as the world’s greatest athlete.

One of the continual questions in sports that annoys me to no end is ‘Who is the greatest athlete currently in sports?’

Look, there is no answer. I don’t care how many eggheads you put in one room, or how many math equations you do, it simply isn’t going to happen. There is no correct answer.

But don’t let my totally rational logic fool you. There are plenty of people out there who would love to argue this until their face turns blue. And apparently the Wall Street Journal is one of them.

Anyway, the Journal put together a panel of sports experts and had them grade athletes on, well, a lot of stuff.  Speed; vision and reflex; stamina and recovery; coordination and flexibility; power, strength and size; and success and competitiveness. The final category examined success—records held and victories—as well as competitiveness, based on the sport’s popularity. Soccer, for example, the world’s most popular sport, was judged the most competitive.

Just so you know, Yale statistician John Emerson helped normalize the scores so no single panelist could exert undue influence. I could care less.

Anyway, here’s what they came up with. The greatest athletes in the world, from 1 to 10 are:

1. Roman Sebrle (Track and Field)
2. LeBron James (NBA)
3. Floyd Mayweather (Boxer)
4. LaDainian Tomlinson (NFL)
5. Roger Federer (Tennis)
6. Sidney Crosby (NHL)
7. Liu Xiang (Track and Field)
8. Jeremy Wariner (Track and Field)
9. Ronaldinho (Soccer)
10. Alex Rodriguez (MLB)

USA’s respected financial publication The Wall Street Journal recently drew together a panel of 5 judges, to study the achievements of 79 male sportsmen across all sports, and decided that Czech Roman Sebrle, the World Decathlon record holder, is currently the world’s greatest sportsman.

While the study was “not completely scientific” as The Wall Street Journal itself admits, it asked its panel to rank the sportsmen based on six criteria: speed; vision and reflex; stamina and recovery; coordination and flexibility; power, strength and size; and success and competitiveness.

The final category examined success - records held and victories - as well as competitiveness, based on the sport’s popularity. Soccer, for example, the world’s most popular sport, was judged the most competitive.

george takey gay“Star Trek” star George Takei is ready to “live long and prosper” with his partner of 21 years.

Takei will marry 54-year-old Brad Altman on September 14th in Los Angeles. Takei was jubilant, saying “it’s going to be the only day like this in our lives and it is the only day like this in the history of America.”

George Takei and his lifetime partner Brad Altman picked up their marriage license on Tuesday in California as gay marriage became legal in that state.

“Congratulations to all of us, and may equality live long and prosper,” Takei said borrowing from his Mr. Sulu character.

“I remember growing up behind the barbed wire fences,” he said. “Now here I am today a popular actor making history. America really can change.”

Takei and Altman were one of the first to get marriage licenses. They have set their date for Sept. 14th. Just days after the California ruling, Takei announced his plans to marry Altman, his partner of 21 years. The couple plan to wed on September 14 in front of family and friends, including some of Takei’s Star Trek cast mates.

Immediately after obtaining their marriage license, “I started singing ‘One Singular Sensation,’” Takei said. “(Brad) said ‘I love you’ and I looked at him and said, ‘I love you.’”

Takei and Altman were the first couple to receive a marriage license from West Hollywood, a city that previously did not issue licenses to gay or straight couples. The wedding will take place at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. Other celebrities who plan to hold a gay wedding in Los Angeles included talk show hostess and comedian Ellen de Generes, who announced plans last month to marry her partner, actress Portia De Rossi.

ray allen wifeHere you will find information about Shannon Walker Wiliams the Ray Allen’s wife. Below you will find the biography, and some photos with Ray Allen’s wife.

There is speculation whether Shannon Walker Williams is Ray Allen’s wife or longtime girlfriend. Several sites report that the two are in fact husband and wife and others suggest they are not. At any rate, it had to have been quite a scare for Shannon on Sunday after their youngest son, Walker, was reportedly admitted to the hospital in Los Angeles. Walker had undergone medical testing both Sunday and Monday. Ray stayed with Shannon and Walker until Monday night, then had to take an overnight flight to Boston so he could play in tonight’s championship game.

As a biography, Shannon Walker Williams is from Middletown, Connecticut. She attended Northeastern University where she studied music. She was a singer in the Motown group “Shades” and has also sung the National Anthem in Milwaukee while Ray was a player there. She evidently is an actress as well, having appeared on TV and film. She reportedly married Ray Allen in 2004. Together they have two sons, Ray III and Walker.

Stephanie Izard

Stephanie Izard is the winner the fourth season of Top Chef in Chicago. Izard grew up in Stamford, Connecticut and attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a degree in Sociology, before attending the Scottsdale Culinary Institute. She is the former head chef and owner of the now closed Chicago restaurant Scylla. Izard sold the restaurant before it closed, which extensive travels around the United States and abroad before she joined Top Chef. Like Hawk Harrelson with the White Sox, we’ve been unabashed homers for Stephanie Izard to win “Top Chef Chicago” here at Chicagoist pretty much since we heard that she was taking part in the show. Her performance thus far — winner of one quickfire challenge and four elimination challenges — combined with an ebullient personality has her poised as both the front runner and fan favorite to win the competition. But what does Izard have planned after “Top Chef?” We know of one event that she’s doing in two weeks. Before the show she simply owned and ran one of the better restaurants in the city in Scylla. Her statement when it was announced that Scylla was closing was that she wanted to travel more. Almost immediately after Scylla closed, reports around town had Izard in a “Top Chef” smock, running against the clock at Whole Foods. Will she make good on her plans to travel more? Or has her run on the program re-stoked the desire to re-plant stakes in the local dining scene?

Linda Bollea

  • Author: Razvan Pirnac

  • Date: Jun 11,2008

On December 18, 1983, Hogan married Linda Claridge. They have a daughter Brooke (born May 5, 1988) and a son Nick (born July 27, 1990). In recent years Hogan has made his personal life the centerpiece of the television show Hogan Knows Best, which includes his two children and his wife.

Hogan’s 17 year old son Nick was indicted as an adult on four criminal charges on November 7, 2007. These charges stemmed from an August car accident, which injured John Graziano to the point where he will be in a nursing home the rest of his life. Police have a receipt that shows Hogan purchased beer at an Albertsons, including two cases of Miller Lite beer, two cases of Corona beer, one case of Miller Chill beer and five bags of ice. Nick pleaded no contest and was sentenced to eight months in jail on May 9, 2008, a sentence which promptly took effect.
She may be going through a nasty divorce, but that’s not stopping Linda Bollea (Hulk Hogan’s estranged wife) from having a good time now and then.

Our spies tell us Linda and family partied the night away on Saturday at Floyd’s inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tampa. Daughter Brooke (who looked great at the Grammys on Sunday — see right) and son Nick were on hand, but Floyd’s is a 21-and-up crowd, so they left early. But 48-year-old Mama Hogan held it down in the VIP area, as evidenced by these paparazzi shots.

Meanwhile, the St. Pete Times reported over the weekend that the National Enquirer’s John Blosser contacted Linda’s lawyer, A.J. Barranco Jr., with a letter seeking comment for an article the rag was writing about “her erratic behavior, her drinking habits and her verbally abusive language” toward Hulk and the kids.

Barranco replied in another letter that Linda was a “stay-at-home mom during their entire marriage,” and the children still live with her. He also says that Hulk and Blosser were compadres, with the wrassler referring to him as “my guy in the tabloids.”

And as far as the drinking, Barranco cops that Linda “sought an evaluation of herself at the Betty Ford Clinic.” But they apparently “found no issues and she was sent home after less than one week.”

Saying such allegations often arise in bitter divorces, Barranco insisted the case “will be resolved on the legal merits and true facts, not on the ‘he-man tactics.’ This case will be tried in court and we shall see a ‘smackdown’!!”

Good, good — we love it when people end letters in trite wordplay.

On November 20, 2007, Hogan’s wife Linda filed for divorce in Pinellas County, Florida. Hulk told St. Petersburg Times he wasn’t even aware of the filing when the paper called for a comment. The Graziano family’s lawyer believes the divorce might be an attempt to divide the family’s assets from a planned civil suit against the Bolleas regarding their son, Nick Bollea.
Just saw the name Linda Bollea and had no idea who it was. It turns out it is Linda Hogan. Yeah, the same Linda who got divorced from Hulk Hogan. The same Linda who is dating some 19 year old boy. Which is gross by the way. So year, Linda Bollea is Linda Hogan.

Linda Bollea is kind of an odd person to me. She’s a huge lover of animals. She’s so crazy she actually considered adopting a baby chimpanzee. Now she’s dating a 19 year old. LOL. She’s a fairly easy going parent and may be one of the reason Nick Hogan is in jail.

She like the rest of the family looks like bleach blond white trash, and based of Linda’s new boyfriend, it seems appropriate.

Randy Pausch Death

  • Author: Razvan Pirnac
  • Date: Jun 11,2008

It’s an odd feeling, watching someone you’ve met, die from a distance. Randy Pausch is only forty-six years old and he’s dying of pancreatic cancer. I know him from my time at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a computer science professor quite unlike any other. I never had the opportunity to take his courses–in fact, I don’t think I ever exchanged more than two words with him in passing–but nonetheless, he made an indelible impression on students at the university itself.
Randy has pancreatic cancer which has now spread to his liver. I asked him if he would be around for Christmas. He said, “50/50″. I asked, “Father’s Day?”. He said, “I wouldn’t buy me anything.”. It was a rare somber moment. Until you start talking about his three small children or his wife, Randy is able to stay remarkably upbeat. In his lecture at Carnegie Mellon he started by announcing that he’d experienced a death bed conversion - paused -smirked - and said, “I bought a Macintosh.” The place errupted.

In my story tonight I’ll have more of the speech along with an interview I did with Randy while his kids were napping earlier this week.

Understandably, Randy wants to spend as much quality time with his kids as possible. But he is also a teacher and he has so much wisdom to share. More now than ever. Facing imminent death seems to have crystalized that wisdom. His lecture has already been downloaded nearly a million times by people all over the world. And most everyone has found inspiration.
I can’t possibly tell you everything I want to tell you about Randy in this short blog. Tonight’s story will be equally lacking. Which is why I’ve asked Katie and our other executives here at CBS if I can visit with Randy every few weeks for as long as he has to live. They have agreed. Randy is thinking about it - although he cautioned me to be careful what I wish for. “Death can get ugly,” he said.

When Randy Pausch discovered that pancreatic cancer would kill him within months, he was most worried about the fate of his family - his wife, Jai, and their three children under the age of six.

Last week, as the college professor signed a £3.2m deal to turn his farewell lecture to his students into a book that he is unlikely to see published, he admitted that, in the oddest ways, life was perking up.

“I just told a traffic cop I was dying and talked my way out of a speeding ticket,” said the boyish 47-year-old professor from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. “It’s probably the closest I am ever going to get to feeling attractive and blond.”

Pausch has been compared to Ruth Picardie and John Diamond, the British writers who in the 1990s chronicled their own losing battles with cancer. Despite Americans’ confessional culture, they have been more squeamish about such bleak disclosures because they clash with the conviction that hard struggles deserve happy endings.

Pausch says that, so far, death has been good to him. He remains fit. His new-found celebrity has earned him enough money to buy a dream home for his family in Virginia and opened doors to personal idols such as Sting, the pop musician.

Levonda Selph

One such case involves Lieutenant Colonel Levonda Joey Selph, a master logistics officer who worked with Petraeus when he commanded the effort to train and equip Iraqi security forces in 2004 and 2005. Petraeus has already commented that he considered the rapid preparation of Iraqi soldiers and police to be a greater priority than scrupulous bookkeeping. As yet, Petraeus is not suspected of any wrongdoing — and indeed, even whatSelph is suspected of having done is unclear. But here’s what is: Selph ran a massive logistics operation, and one that was ripe for abuse.

Even outside of Selph’s command, the paper reports, there are indications of how corruption nibbled around the edges of a variety of contracts. Iraqis, U.S. contractors, foreign contractors, U.S. military officials, and U.S. civilian workers are under investigation for everything from “conspiracy, bribery, product substitution and bid-rigging or double-billing involving large dollar amounts or more senior contracting officials.”
Levonda J. Selph pleaded guilty to bribery and conspiracy in U.S. District Court as part of a plea bargain with the government in which she agreed to cooperate with the investigation. The Virginia resident also agreed to pay the government $9,000 in restitution and serve a prison term.

She agreed to sentencing guidelines that could result in a prison term of up to two years and nine months. The length will be set by U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton on Oct. 14.

The government said that in 2005 Lt. Col. Selph of the Army National Guard served in Baghdad as head of a selection board that awarded an annual $12 million contract to build and operate Defense Department warehouses in Iraq. The winning contractor was not identified by name in the court documents.
