Alex Croak is an Australian diver and gymnast who is a dual Olympic representative. She represented Australia as a gymnast at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and after a strong performance at the 2008 Australian national Diving Championships, she was selected for Australia’s diving team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In 2003, she switched to diving and developed quickly enough to be selected for diving team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. There she won a silver medal with Melissa Wu in the 10m synchronised platform. Later that same year, she and Wu again won silver at the Grand Prix meeting in Rome. TEENAGE diving ace Melissa Wu last night made a nervous start to her campaign in the women’s 10m platform preliminaries, but is confident of finding more in today’s finals as the Chinese again look set to dominate. Former Olympic gymnast Alex Croak was the best performed Australian in last night’s preliminary rounds at the Water Cube, placing fourth overall with a score of 383.75, while 16-year-old Wu finish eighth (340.35).
Wu was ranked sixth after the third round, but slipped to 12th after messy entry on her fourth dive _ a back three-and-a-half somersault that scored just 37.95 points _ before moving back into the top 10 with her final effort. Sydney University diver Alex Croak is on the brink of making history in the coming months, after finishing second in the 10m platform category at the Australian Olympic Selection Trials in Hobart on the weekend.
Alex Croak scored 78.20 in her final dive of the event to finish second behind Melissa Wu and all but book her place in the Australian diving team for Beijing.
Alex Croak is hoping to become one of a select few athletes to have represented Australia in two different sports in Olympic competition.
The 23 year old Croak represented Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics as a gymnast, and won an all round gymnastics team gold medal and individual vault silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
