Wimbledon Final TV Schedule

Roger Federer of Switzerland and Rafael Nadal of Spain completed their march toward a third consecutive Wimbledon final Friday, handily defeating their respective semifinal opponents with the sharply contrasting styles that define the most compelling rivalry in men’s tennis.

Americans Venus and Serena Williams were to spend Friday evening as they have nearly every night for the past two weeks: talking about everything except tennis, having dinner together and going to their rooms to read (in Venus’ case) or watch a movie (in Serena’s).

Today’s schedule included breakfast together, followed by the arrival of two cars — one to take each sister to the All England Club, where they will compete for the greatest prize in tennis.

It will be the third time the sisters have battled for Wimbledon’s championship. Serena, 26, won the previous meetings, in 2002 and 2003.

Defending champion Venus, 28, earned her fourth title last year; she also triumphed in 2000, 2001 and 2005.

ESPN2 is showing Wimbledon live in the mornings (with Brad Gilbert!) and Tennis Channel is showing it taped in the evenings for those without TIVO (or with Brad Gilbert phobias.) NBC has a paltry, watch-at-your-own-risk, 3 hour window of “kinda live” tennis (note that the asterisk next to the times means “all time zones” so it’s live on the East Coast, taped everywhere else) starting on the first Saturday and going through the Quarter Finals on Wednesday, July 2nd. Then NBC will go to a “kinda live” 5 hour window for the Semis, and will show the Finals live for everyone (imagine!) ESPN2 will supplement this coverage in the second week (i.e. show matches involving Kolya and Kuzey types.)

Saturday, July 5 9:00 am - 2:00 pm Wimbledon: Final (Ladies’) ESPN2 (L)
Saturday, July 5 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm Wimbledon: Final (Ladies’) NBC (L)
Sunday, July 6 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Wimbledon: Final (Gentlemen’s) NBC (L)
Sunday, July 6 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Wimbledon: Final (Gentlemen’s) ESPN2 (L)

terrence kiel is deadFormer San Diego Chargers safety Terrence Kiel, whose off-field problems prevented his enormous talent from coming to fruition, has died in a car crash at age 27.

Kiel was reportedly driving alone after leaving a party at about 10:15 Friday night when his car hit a wall, ejecting him from the vehicle. He died about an hour later. A police spokesman said friends had tried to keep Kiel from driving home from the party, and witnesses told police he appeared to be driving in the wrong direction when he crashed. According to the Union-Tribune, Kiel was ejected from his car, and was barely breathing when emergency personnel reached him. The Lufkin, Texas, native was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m.

A second-round pick from Texas A&M in the 2003 NFL draft, Kiel has been out of the league since the Chargers released him after a guilty plea to a felony drug charge in February 2007, according to the Union-Tribune. Kiel compiled 278 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles in four seasons with the Chargers, from 2003-2006. The accident occurred in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. A witness told police that Kiel was driving a 2004 Chevy sedan the wrong way before losing control and rolling it. Kiel was ejected from the vehicle.

Kiel was a second-round pick in the 2003 draft. He appeared in every game in 2003 and 2004, 12 in 2005, and 15 in 2006.

The Chargers released him in 2007 after he pleaded guilty to sending codeine-laced cough syrup to Houston, presumably for use as the main ingredient in the beverage known as “lean” or “purple drank.” No other team signed him.

Chris Snyder Injury

The Chris Snyder injury video is not something most men will want to watch, but here it is. Check out Chris Snyder injure his testicle in this amazing action video. Chris Snyder is one heckuva man. He actually managed to finish the inning, despite being hit where it really hurts. Way to go, Chris.

If you read enough sports news yesterday you know that Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder suffered one of the worst injuries a man can have: testicle fracture. Ugh, again, I’d rather tear my ACL.

Well guess what, now you can see the injury in all it’s ball-busting glory! Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder has had his left testicle injured and while it may sound funny, I assure you - it’s not.

Chris Snyder (commonly misspelled as Chris Schneider) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list thanks to a testicular fracture. Ouch! Snyder suffered the injury during Monday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Snyder was struck in the testicles by a foul ball in the fourth inning. Originally thought that Snyder would need surgery for his fractured left testicle, the Diamondbacks said that he will not undergo any procedure.

Nick Sheley

Fugitive Nick Sheley is “a person of interest” in four more homicides, now that two men, a woman and a child were found dead in at Rock Falls apartment about 4 p.m. Monday, Cmdr. Michael Kuelper said.

In addition, the St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting in today’s editions that Sheley is being sought in the St. Louis, Mo., area, although a reason why is not given.

Rock Falls police declined to release further information on the victims, including ages, or how or when they were killed.

Sheley is a known associate of one of the victims, Kuelper said.
He and the kids went to the zoo, played in the park, swam in the lake and visited Six Flags. Nick even took 3-year-old Nicholas Jr. to work with him.

Now, however, Holly simply hopes that the next time she sees her husband, the police haven’t shot or killed him.

Sheley, 28, suspected in homicide and a spate of other crimes, managed to escape arrest Thursday and still hasn’t been caught. Police say he’s armed and dangerous.

Holly, 30, said that when her husband’s sober, though, he’s a “regular society guy.”

“At this point right now, if I could say that he was possessed … and people would actually believe it, I could say he was, because this is not Nick,” Holly said. “Without drugs, without alcohol, Nick is kind-hearted. He’s caring. He has respect for people. He’s a hard worker. He’s a loving dad.”

Sheley made his living doing independent construction work, and often was hired by contractors, Holly said. As the manhunt for fugitive Nicholas Sheley entered a third day Saturday, a cousin and brother of Sheley who police said have been in contact with him since Thursday are both in custody.
Sheley’s car, an older Cadillac, was found at Reed’s home. Deputies sent an alert asking area law officers to keep an eye out for Reed’s car, which was found that afternoon.

The Whiteside County Emergency Response Team responded and searched two homes, but Sheley was not in the house where Reed’s car was found, nor was he in a home at the corner of Second Street and Sixth Avenue.

Police called off the search on Griswold at about 6 p.m.

In the meantime, an off-duty Rock Falls police officer spotted Sheley in the Lincoln, about 45 minutes before the owner reported it stolen.

About 9:45 p.m., Dixon Police saw the Lincoln in the 400 block of East River Street. They chased it to a field south of Harmon, but when they arrived, Sheley had fled, Chief Dan Langloss said.

Officers found money and other items taken from the Rock Falls home, but not the guns, Schipper said.

Dixon, Sterling and Amboy police, Lee and Whiteside sheriff’s officials and State Police searched all night using dogs and a helicopter, but Sheley was not found.
A massive manhunt ramped up after the bodies were found at 1201 Ave. A, Apt. 5. An unidentified person called in a welfare check at the apartment, which lead to the discovery, Kuelper said. The FBI has joined the local investigation.

Sheley, 28, is still considered armed and dangerous, and so should not be approached, police said. If spotted, people should call their local law enforcement agency, or the anonymous hotline, Whiteside County Crimestoppers, 815-625-7867.

A reward for information leading to his capture and arrest was increased Monday to $25,000.
