Drew Walter Peterson, is a former Bolingbrook, Illinois police sergeant and alleged double-murderer who has received nationwide attention in the United States for becoming a suspect in a police investigation following the death of his third wife and subsequent disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy. Peterson has repeatedly denied involvement in both cases. Stacy Peterson went missing on Sunday, October 28, 2007. She was officially reported missing in the early hours of Monday, October 29, 2007, after her sister, Cassandra Cales, failed to hear from her when expected. Drew Peterson claims that Stacy called him at 9 p.m. on Sunday to tell him that she had left him for another man and that she had left her car at Bolingbrook’s Clow International Airport. Drew Peterson had a 29 year career as a policeman. Peterson brought forward his planned December 2007 retirement as a Bolingbrook police sergeant following Stacy’s October 28 disappearance. The Bolingbrook Police Pension Board voted on November 15, 2007 to allow Peterson to collect his $6,067.71 per month pension, stating current law gave them no option, as Peterson had not been convicted of any crime.

Former Bolingbrook’s police sergeant Drew Peterson, whose wife vanished without a trace three weeks ago, said in one of the numerous interviews he’s had since, that he is “prepared” to be arrested, Chicago Sun-Times reported. Police are also investigating the death of Peterson’s third wife, Kathleen Savio, whose drowning in 2004 is now considered by some officials to have been a homicide. While relatives and friends of missing Illinois housewife Stacy Peterson observed her 24th birthday this week with a solemn vigil, the main suspect in her disappearance — her husband — is going public with his desire to start dating.

“Stacy is not missing,” Drew Peterson’s attorney, Joel Brodsky, told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer on Thursday. “Drew Peterson has said from day one — and he believes and he knows — that Stacy has run off with another man. He’s a single man. He’s raising his children the best he can. And he’s entitled to get on with his life. Stacy’s run off with another man, so she’s moved on with her life. Why should Drew be sitting in a dark room?”

Peterson remains the only suspect in Stacy Peterson’s disappearance on Oct. 28. Police are also re-examining the 2004 bathtub drowning death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, which was ruled accidental at the time.
