Paul Pierce Injury

Paul Pierce, nicknamed The Truth, is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the NBA. He earned All-America First Team honors in his junior year at Kansas, and has been a starter every season since being selected by the Celtics with the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. He is a 6-time All-Star and led Boston to appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2002 and the NBA Finals in 2008.
On September 25, 2000, Paul Pierce was stabbed 11 times in the face, the neck and the back while at a late night dance club in the Boston area. He had to undergo lung surgery to repair the damage. He has overcome the stabbing and was the only Celtic to start all 82 games that year.
Paul Pierce picked up his third foul with 5:13 left in the half, and went to the bench with the Celtics leading 40-37. Without their leading scorer, the Celtics struggled offensively, and the Lakers went on a 14-6 run to finish the half with a 51-46 lead. Pierce made an immediate impact when the third quarter began though, scoring the Celtics’ first seven points of the quarter and leading his team to retake the lead.

But later in the quarter, Pierce appeared to sustain a serious knee injury, and was carted to the locker room on a wheelchair. Not even five minutes had passed though before we saw Pierce skipping through the tunnel, and the emotional lift that he gave the crowd was a sizable one, not to mention hitting back to back three point shots late in the third to extend the Boston lead to four after three quarters.
