Corcoran State Prison

California State Prison, Corcoran (COR) is a male-only California state prison located in the city of Corcoran, in Kings County. It is also known as “Corcoran State Prison”, “CSP-COR”, “CSP-Corcoran”, “CSP-C”, or “Corcoran I” . It should not be confused with the newer California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran, which is just south of COR and is known as “Corcoran II”.

The California State Prison (CSP), Corcoran is committed to ensuring and instilling the public and inmates’ families with the confidence that CSP-Corcoran is committed to providing the best medical, mental health, education, vocational and self help programs for all inmates confined to Corcoran.

CSP-Corcoran not only meets this commitment by providing it’s employees with the proper training, tools and safe working environment, but also by encouraging ideas and collaboration between all departments. Corcoran State prison has a 75 bed hospital. The patients come from this prison and others. The rooms are similar to the cells with a heavy metal sliding door. A hospital bed is inside the cell. Medical personnel wear stab-proof vests and Plexiglas facemasks as a precaution when entering these hospital rooms. Many of the patients are there because they were stabbed or beaten by their fellow inmates. They showed one inmate refusing to leave the cell and how they had to use two large canisters of pepper spray to subdue him. Finally, he surrendered and was taken from his room.
