Earth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of 29 March at 8 pm local time until 9 pm to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions.

It is promoted by World Wide Fund for Nature Australia (WWF), an environmental lobby group, and the Sydney Morning Herald. The first Earth Hour was held in Sydney, Australia between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm on 31 March 2007. The 2007 Earth Hour is estimated to have cut Sydney’s mains electricity consumption by between 2.1% and 10.2% for that hour, with as many as 2.2 million people taking part. A second Earth Hour, in 2008, is planned to be an international event held in Sydney, many partner cities, and individuals around the world participating.
City of Sydney and its Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, helped to make Earth Hour 2008 an international event.[1]

Earth Hour has also received the backing of search engine giant, Google. From 12:00 AM on March 29, 2008 till the end of that day, Google tuned their homepage to a black background. According to their website:

Google users in the United States will notice today that we “turned the lights out” on the Google.com homepage as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. As to why we don’t do this permanently - it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power regardless of what they display. However, you can do something to reduce the energy consumption of your home PC by joining the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.

Earth Hour 2008 will include the following “partner cities” and some surrounding areas.

Thank you for making this information to everyone. I live within the USA, but have relatives in both Romania & S.A. We made calls to let them know days ahead of time…however, they were well aware of this. We all took part! Again, thank you for your concern.

    Regards,

    Leah

All you sheep are being scammed. CO2 is a life giving gas, NOT pollution, and certainly does not cause global warming. The Sun warms Earth AND the other planets! The Sun was very active for several years and now has calmed, and the Earth is now cooling. The Earth has warmed and cooled before, long before SUV’s existed; and the rise in CO2 follows the warming, not the other way around as that lying politician Al Gore falsely claims.
The government bribed scientists were not even climate scientists. There was no debate, just a vote after being wined and dined. A lot of real climate scientists have said global warming is a scam but the corporate controlled media won’t tell you that. The carbon taxes are a scam and the government is increasing actual pollution output. This scam will also be used to convince the sheeple to accept the creation of extremely polluting nuclear power plants. They will be sold to fools as being green, and most of you will buy into that too.
My electricity comes from hydro power which is fairly green already. I will be turning all my lights on, thank you very much.
