Elias Ibrahim drowned

Elias Ibrahim drowned early Friday morning in the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center’s lap pool, according to university police.

Ibrahim was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and was set to graduate this spring with a degree in physiological science. Nancy Greenstein, the director of police community services for UCPD, said he had been accepted into medical school for the fall.

Police said alcohol was involved, but are unsure if it contributed to Ibrahim’s death. They got the call from Sunset Recreation Center at 2:14 a.m. on March 14.

According to a Facebook group created in his memory, there will be a prayer and remembrance ceremony tonight at 7 p.m. in Bruin Plaza.

    elias was a 2004 graduate of john w north hs in riverside he was an honor student in the ib program and he was part of both the waterpolo and swim teams in high school

    I went to summer school with Elias. We were study buddies with a few other friends. What a brilliant guy, studying for the MCATs and our vert. morphology class at the same time. I miss him big time.

    i went to high school with him also, i was in Art AP with him. he was always a little quarky but and awesome guy. he will be missed
