Mongolian Death Worm

The Mongolian Death Worm, known to Mongolia’s nomadic tribesmen as the allghoi khorkhoi (sometimes given as allerghoi horhai or olgoj chorchoj) or ‘intestine worm’ for its resemblance to a sort of living cow’s intestine. It is said to be red in colour, and is sometimes described as having darker spots or blotches, and sometimes said to bear spiked projections at both ends. They are said to be thick bodied and between 2 and 5 feet long. It is described as a fat, bright red worm, 2 to 5 feet long (0.6 to 1.5 meters).[citation needed] The local name is allghoi (or orghoi) khorkhoi (хорхой) which means “blood filled intestine worm,” because it is reported to look like the intestine of a cow. There are a number of extraordinary claims by Mongolian locals - such as the ability of the worm to spew forth a yellow poison that is lethal on contact, and its purported ability to kill at a distance by means of electric discharge. However, there are no known reliable sightings. Some believe the worm is actually a reptile, legless lizard, or arthropod because of the dry climate in which it lives. The colour yellow is said to attract the worm.
The Mongolian Death Worm is a giant poisonous worm that allegedly lives in the Gobi Desert. It sounds like a sci-fi character, but there have been numerous encounters which support the theory that it actually exists. The worm is believed to be five feet in length and resembles a cow’s intestine. It is usually red in colour and sometimes has spikes protruding from both ends. The worm is highly dangerous and can squirt lethal venom and discharge electric shocks over several feet.

Ivan Mackerle is the head of a Czech Republic team who have searched for the worm three times. During the second expedition Mackerle tried, unsuccessfully, to lure the worm out of the desert using high explosives. He returned in 2004, this time using low flying techniques to film huge stretches of the desert, but the expedition failed to capture any signs of the worm on camera.

Scientists and amateur researchers are intrigued by the idea of a creature that has been reported by Mongolian nomads for hundreds of years. It could be only a matter of time before one of the many expeditions gain proof of its existence.
